Petrified Wood
This Petrified Wood was hand collected by our team in Apache County, Arizona. It can be found abundantly scattered in an otherwise barren wasteland.
Petrified Wood is found worldwide and dates backs hundreds of millions of years. It is actually a fossil, formed when a tree dies and the organic matter is gradually replaced by stone, in this case; silicates. The colors present are due to the minerals that were once present in the mud and water surrounding and seeping into the tree. Iron gives a red or brownish color. Cobalt and Copper gives blue and green colors. Manganese gives pink and orange colors.
